Hey everyone! Sam Bradford, once a star at Oklahoma, has faced a tough turn of events. He got injured during a game where his team, the #3 ranked Oklahoma Sooners, lost to BYU, who was ranked #20 at the time. This injury could mean that he may not reach his full potential, possibly missing out on $20 million in guaranteed NFL money because he didn’t go pro the previous year. Even more disappointing, Oklahoma’s chances at the national championships this year have taken a hit.
Life goes on, though. Why stress about money when you can enjoy college life and earn a degree? If you’re an aspiring professional athlete and need some guidance, feel free to drop us an email. We’re here to support you, even if the Sooner fans aren’t showing the same support for Sam.
Switching gears to academic matters, the latest issue of Washington Monthly introduced a new college ranking system that’s stirring the pot. They’ve taken a critical look at the typical ranking methodologies, like those used by US News & World Report, pointing out some questionable practices by faculty at places like Clemson and the University of Florida, who manipulated results. According to Washington Monthly, the best American colleges are those that do the most to assist economically disadvantaged students, contribute to scientific discoveries, and encourage community and national service. They rank colleges based on Social Mobility, Research, and Service.
Here’s a quick look at their top 10 universities:
1. UC Berkeley
2. UC San Diego
3. UC Los Angeles
4. Stanford University
5. Texas A&M College Station
6. South Carolina State University
7. Penn State
8. The College of William & Mary
9. University of Texas – Austin
10. UC Davis
It’s interesting to note that California schools are prominently featured, and only one private school, Stanford, made it into the top 10. This begs the question: is it worth spending $50,000 a year to attend a private school on the East Coast? It’s something to ponder, especially after seeing these rankings!
